We asked the best AI chatbots about their predictions for 2024… and returned some VERY alarming results

From ChatGPT taking the world by storm to causing historic strikes in Hollywood. Artificial intelligence had its year of explosion in 2023.

So what’s in store for cutting-edge technology in 2024? DailyMail.com asked leading AI chatbots to predict their own destiny (Google’s Bard and Amazon-backed Claude) and got some very alarming results.

We chose those two language models because they use live data from the Internet to make their predictions, unlike ChatGPT and Microsoft.‘s Bing that are based on older data.

These were the results:

AI systems could begin to reason on their own

Claude.ai predicted that the first AI models would begin to show signs of AGI: “artificial general intelligence.”

AGI is a theoretically intelligent agent capable of completing any intellectual task that a human being can perform, and its arrival is predicted to bring about enormous changes in human society.

Backed by Google and Amazon, Claude’s parent company, Anthropic, was founded by former members of OpenAI, creators of ChatGPT.

Claude told DailyMail.com: ‘In recent years we have seen AI algorithms match or exceed human performance in specialized tasks such as object recognition, gaming and language processing.

“Techniques such as deep learning and neural networks running on powerful computing infrastructure have driven these advances. Large investments by big tech companies and startups suggest the pace of innovation is not slowing anytime soon.

‘And some AI researchers anticipate that we are now closer to “Artificial General Intelligence” (AGI), algorithms that can match the flexibility and adaptability of humans in different environments and tasks.

‘Groups like DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Brain and Anthropic are driving this AGI goal. While we likely won’t be able to fully crack general intelligence by 2024, we may see demonstrations of systems that begin to show broader reasoning, creativity, and decision-making capabilities.

Claude.ai said AI-related issues could include systems behaving unpredictably and work automation outpacing workers’ ability to adapt.

Biotechnology will “improve” humans

Bard predicted that by 2024 there could be biotechnological advances that “improve” the human race.

AI suggested these could include advances in ‘brain-computer interfaces’, where human brains connect to computers.

Elon Musk’s Neuralink is set to test such technology on volunteers next year.

An analysis by Foresight Factory this year suggested that more than a third of consumers would be happy to have such a chip implanted to connect more easily to computer systems.

Bard said: “Advances in biocompatible materials and robotic engineering could lead to bionic limbs that restore near-natural motor function or even overcome human limitations in strength and dexterity.” Exoskeletons could increase physical capabilities for lifting heavy objects, military applications or assisting the elderly.

«Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) could allow direct communication between the brain and computing systems, allowing control of prostheses, external devices or even virtual environments. Potential applications include communication for people with paralysis, increased creativity and productivity, or even brain-to-brain communication.’

“Devices that create realistic haptic sensations could revolutionize virtual reality and other immersive experiences, providing improved information in medical training, gaming and entertainment.”

The dawn of personalized medicine

Personalized medicine, in which treatments are tailored to the individual based on their DNA, has the potential to change human life on a large scale.

Bard predicted that AI could drive new advances in personalized medicine next year.

‘Personalized medicine, also known as precision medicine, aims to tailor treatments and preventive strategies to each individual’s unique genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. In this quest, AI is emerging as a game-changer, driving advances in various aspects of healthcare:

“By deciphering large amounts of genetic data, AI can identify risk factors for specific diseases, enabling proactive interventions and personalized prevention plans.

‘AI can mine electronic health records (EHRs) to uncover hidden patterns and connections between symptoms, medications, and outcomes, leading to more accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment recommendations.

“AI can analyze patient data and predict how they might respond to different treatments, helping doctors choose the most effective and least harmful options for each individual.”

Barad said issues surrounding the use of AI in medicine include protecting personal data and ensuring that AI does not treat patients in a biased way.

As the 2024 elections approach, concerns are growing about foreign interference and manipulation through cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns. These threats, often intertwined, can significantly affect public opinion, sow discord and ultimately undermine the integrity of democratic processes.

Election hacking warning

With the presidential election approaching in the US, Google’s Bard predicted that malicious actors will try to undermine the election using technology.

Such attacks could include attacks on voting machines in an effort to undermine confidence in the result, Gemini Pro’s Bard warned.

Bard said: ‘Malicious actors could attack voter registration databases, voting machines or election results reporting systems to disrupt the voting process, cast doubt on the outcome, or manipulate the results.

‘The theft of sensitive voter data or campaign information can be used for blackmail, targeted disinformation campaigns, or voter suppression tactics.

‘Bots and fake accounts can be used to spread propaganda, amplify certain narratives and silence opposing voices. Deepfakes, manipulated videos or audio recordings can further blur the line between truth and fiction.

“Fake news articles, social media posts, or even personalized emails can exploit existing biases and anxieties to sway voters toward specific candidates or discourage them from voting altogether.”

Tensions with China increase

Anthropic’s Claude predicts that tensions between the United States and China will continue to rise in 2024.

Tensions between Taiwan and China, which considers the democratically governed island its own territory, have soared in the past four years, as China seeks to assert its sovereignty claims with political and military pressure.

Claude said: ‘The relationship between China and the US and its Western allies has become increasingly strained in recent years due to several key factors:

Taiwan remains one of the most controversial issues. China views Taiwan as a breakaway province that should be reunified with the mainland, by force if necessary.

‘But Taiwan has evolved into a distinct democratic society with its own identity. The United States has historically supported Taiwan’s right to self-determination and supplied weapons for its defenses, raising tensions with China.

“If Taiwan moves toward formal independence in 2024, that could lead to more aggressive postures or even military action by China.”
