Everyone who owns a smartwatch or tracker knows that annoying, guilty feeling that comes from seeing an hourly movement reminder. When you’re overwhelmed with work, the message “It’s time to get up!” the message is not motivating; It feels like a critique of your lifestyle and a reminder of how unhealthy sitting is. No wonder most people turn them off!

Count me among that number. I test smartwatches for a living, and one of the first things I usually do after unpacking and setting up a watch is find a way to turn off those reminders, despite knowing I shouldn’t.
