Inside and outside of tech circles, AI dominates the conversation about job creation and loss. “We are finding a symbiotic relationship between the disciplines of AI and quantum, each bringing its own value and making the other more efficient and faster. Today, machine learning has the ability to organize and manipulate large data sets very well, which is a feature that quantum computing can benefit from.”

Similar to how AI is surpassing all timescale predictions, Dr. Gilkes believes that the rapid advancement of quantum computing means its impact will be felt for years to come.

“My prediction is that we won’t have to wait more than two or three years to start seeing real promise.”
