HiPEAC 2024 conference will focus on cutting-edge AI

The 19th edition of the HiPEAC conference, which will bring together computer systems from around the world, will take place in Munich from January 17 to 19, 2024. A highlight of the calendar of the European computer systems community, the event offers unparalleled opportunities to establish contacts and the possibility of identifying priorities for future directions in this field. This year, computing continuity and cutting-edge AI are central themes, complementing the conference’s traditional focus on high-performance, embedded architecture and compilation.

‘As an engineering center with a rich academic tradition, Munich is a natural location for the HiPEAC conference. This year’s program is a guide to key trends in computing systems across the computing spectrum, with sessions on the latest machine learning architectures, advances in neuromorphic and quantum computing as they move towards the integration stage, HPC made in Europe, and the latest research on safety-critical systems in real time,” says HiPEAC 2024 General President Diana Gohringer (TU Dresden).

“With registrations reaching near-record levels, the enduring appeal of the HiPEAC conference is once again clear. In addition to long-standing topics such as performance and energy, the HiPEAC conference offers an opportunity to reflect on issues that affect the entire community of computer systems, such as sustainability.”, adds HiPEAC coordinator, Koen De Bosschere (Ghent University).

HiPEAC 2024 will begin on Wednesday, January 17, with a keynote talk by Reetuparna Das (University of Michigan) exploring how genomics applications advance systems research. Lieven Eeckhout (Ghent University) will begin Thursday’s talks with a keynote on sustainable computing systems. Next, Jan Komarek, Policy Officer at the European Commission, will give a talk in which he will outline relevant policy directions for the IT community. On Friday, January 19, the final keynote talk, by RIKEN’s Mitsuhisa Sato, will discuss the design of the legendary ‘Fugaku’ supercomputer and the challenges for post-exascale computing.

The conference will also see the launch of HiPEAC Vision 2024, a dynamic new edition of HiPEAC’s vision for the future of computing systems. This will be presented in a specific session on Thursday, January 18.

As in previous years, the program offers a comprehensive exploration of computing systems at all levels of the computing stack and covers the entire spectrum from edge devices to HPC installations. In addition to the main paper topic, a total of 33 workshops and 11 tutorials will present advances in computing research, offer practical sessions using the latest technology and provide opportunities to leverage project results. Guided tours of the Leibniz Supercomputing Center are also offered.

The HiPEAC conference will take place in Munich from January 17 to 19, 2024

  • The 19th edition of the HiPEAC conference, the network’s flagship networking event, will take place from January 17 to 19, 2024 in Munich, Germany.
  • Around 600 experts will gather to share ideas on the future of computing systems, from edge to cloud and high-performance computing (HPC), with the continuum of edge computing and AI as a key focus.
  • Sponsorship is at record levels and once again the sold-out exhibition and industry session will feature technology companies from start-ups to multinationals.
  • HiPEAC Vision 2024 will be presented at one of the conference’s 33 workshops, which make up a diverse program along with 11 tutorials, three keynote talks, and the ACM TACO paper follow-up.

Highlights include

Highlights include:

  • Coordinate the computing continuum in workshops such as CODECO, CAFC and CompContinuum, which will consider aspects such as orchestration, modularity, scalability and flexibility, also key topics in HiPEAC Vision 2024. Meanwhile, the DISCOVER-US workshop will present attendees with a new EU-US collaboration project. US focused on the continuum of cloud computing, distributed computing and swarm intelligence, with funded research exchanges available.
  • Innovations in artificial intelligence (AI) at the edge, another priority area identified by HiPEAC Vision 2024, in the NeuroEdge, Driving Next-Gen Edge AI Technologies, DL4IoT and AccML workshops.
  • The latest in European high-performance computing (HPC) architecture and applications, plus updates on the quest for technological sovereignty, presented at CONCERTO, EuroHPC, RISC-V, Towards Reliable Digital Twin, IO-SEA, European HPC Systems Towards Exascale, Classic HPC and QC Workshops, RED-SEA, Plasma Physics towards the ExaScale era and EVEREST + DAPHNE.

The conference will once again feature a STEM Student Day, with an expanded program and additional activities for students. Participating students, who will have free access to the full conference on the day, will have the opportunity to meet representatives from some of the most exciting technology companies, along with the opportunity to submit CVs to the virtual career fair and arrange interviews with Particiapant enterprises. . They will also be able to learn from students’ experiences in the Reproducibility Student Challenge and hear first-hand from industry representatives about what it is like to work in their companies in the ‘Inspiring Futures’ professional session.

Once again, the conference has broken sponsorship records and will welcome returning sponsors along with new businesses, especially those local to Munich. Industry expo and session sponsors include household names such as AMD, Huawei, Arm, Bosch and HPE, as well as industry specialists such as Cloudian, Scaletorch.AI and Tasking.
