Samsung spent most of its time on its phone’s new AI features. These capabilities, called “Galaxy AI,” are a combination of on-device and cloud-based applications that are supposed to simplify life, as much as AI can today.

Front and center is the automatic AI voice and text translation feature. Samsung claimed its Live Translation feature can automatically interpret your voice on calls and then offer a computerized voice for what you said a second later. You’ll also see translations of the text on the screen during the call. The person on the other end of the line also receives a translation for their phone.

Along with a live translation interpreter app for when you talk to someone in person, Samsung promoted Chat Assist as its other big translation feature specifically for text. In your phone’s default messenger, you can set it to automatically translate your ramblings into another language, and the original text will appear right below that new message. The phone can translate 19 languages, including Spanish, French, Japanese, Polish, Italian, Korean, and more.

Chat Assist should also offer your phone a much more extensive spell checking service, similar to Grammarly. In Google Messages, AI can reinterpret your texts, generating new writing to sound more “lyrical” or even more like “Shakespeare.” Google had previously shown off some of these features for chatting on Android devices, but the Samsung keyboard can also change your typing to be more “social” or “professional” in other apps.

Samsung Notes will now have access to Note Assist, which can completely rearrange your quick notes to add bullets and headings for better understanding. If you have terrible handwriting, Samsung said the Notes app will rearrange your words to make them much more readable. Lastly, the speech-to-text transcription feature is getting some AI updates that will help distinguish between speakers and create a summary of what was said in the recording.

And of course, there are plenty of AI-enhanced features for photo editing. First, the company’s AI Pixel Replacement feature is there to remove objects in photos if you’re desperate to remove your annoying cousin from all your family photos. There are also additional features similar to Adobe Firefly that generate artificial parts of a photo by cropping or rotating the image beyond its edges. Heck, the system can generate artificial frames within videos to make videos that aren’t in slow motion appear to be in slow motion.

The company highlighted its own photo enhancement features that can reduce noise and improve image quality. Other features may automatically suggest editing unwanted highlights, reflections, or other artifacts from your photos. Samsung said that each image that is modified with AI gets a watermark indicating that the image is AI, as well as an additional tag in the metadata.

Instagram and Snapchat now have access to Samsung’s native photography features, such as motion photos and image stabilization. You’ll also have full HDR enabled for photos on Instagram. Now, you don’t need to exit every app to take a photo before uploading it to those social apps.

Google made its next big AI announcement alongside Samsung, and it looks like the companies are getting pretty chummy with this latest release. Both Samsung Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8/8 professional They will be the first phones in get Circle function to search. By long-pressing the navigation bar, users can open a simple interface to swipe, circle or tap objects and text in any app, and then use them to perform a full Google search.

Additionally, Google is combining that feature with its own search AI, and users can choose to get an answer from their circle to search from the company’s generative search experience, or SGE. This will create AI responses to your queries when you use Circle to Search or when you use similar multi-search features in Google Lens.

Additionally, Samsung promoted that the Galaxy S24 will still have some AI features enabled with Android Auto. You can now automatically summarize group messages, suggest relevant replies, and share your ETA.

Wait, is that a smart doorbell? Wait, no, don’t go…

Samsung waited until the end of its conference to surprise us all with a piece of technology that some expected would have landed in the fire pits where all dead technology eventually lands. Although we have seen rumors and leaks The Galaxy Ring has been real for years, but aside from a few-second clip showing a rendering of the device, we didn’t get many details about what it’s capable of.

All Samsung promised was that it would be a new piece of health technology that would be a “personal health companion” through Samsung Health. It is a “powerful and affordable health and wellness device” that will likely be very similar to the Oura Smart Ring. Hell, we don’t even really know what it’ll look like based on that teaser, other than it’ll be shaped… like a ring.
